365 Days of Cards | The Beginning
Do you miss getting handwritten letters and cards in the mail? I do. And what better way to reconnect with people in the world around you. I love email and facebook and texting for the speed of talking to a friend or family member, but I miss getting "real" mail. And I think that we are missing something very important.
I like to look back at old letters that I have received from people. I can't help but think that society is losing something by no longer writing and mailing personal and handwritten correspondence. When you start to look into the history of your family or an event, people's handwritten letters are a great place to look for everyday information that you can't get anywhere else. In today's world, we use email and texts. They almost never get printed out. Just deleted and on to the next.
So - this coming year I am going to try to change that a little. I am going to commit to not only sending handwritten notes, but to also make those cards that I send. Don't worry, I have a plan. (and honestly I still may get behind).
First I made a schedule. Very simple but a schedule all the same. This has to do with friends birthdays and anniversaries also. I decided to start making cards in December for those that will receive them in Jan and Feb. Then in Feb, I will make them for March and April, and so on. Each round I will also make extras (and hopefully make them randomly during the year also) for sending to people just because I want to. Here is the schedule written out if you want to play along.

I would love for people to join in and play along and may even make it a series in the future. You might even get some "real" mail back. I think that most people like to get a little something nice in their mail box from time to time.

I do miss getting real mail! When I do, it's a joy amidst all the junk mail and insurance offers. While I'm probably not going to make them, I will make it a point to reconnect with people with handwritten notes. I have an assortment of little packets of cards I've picked up, but embarrassingly... haven't sent too many of them. Great idea. I'm linking to your site on my 31 Days post tomorrow.
